This photograph of the Roman Forum, in Rome brings to life some of the most iconic structures from the Roman Empire The Forum was a central area in ancient Rome and includes temples, marketplaces, and government buildings with some of the structures dating back to the 7th century BC. In this photograph you can see from left to right, the Temple of Vespasian and Titus, the Church of Santi Luca e Martina, the Septimius Severus Arch, ruins of the Temple of Saturn. Far to the right on the horizon you can see the Colosseum rising into the sky.<br /><br />The Temple of Vespasian and Titus was built after the death of Vespasian in 79 AD. The columns on the left side of the photograph are what remains of the temple.<br /><br />The Church Santi Luca e Martina was dedicated to Saint Martina, and commissioned in 625 AD by Pope Honorius I during the reign of Emperor Alexander Severus. It is slightly to the right and behind the Temple of Vespasian and Titus in the photograph. <br /><br />The Arch of Septimius Severus stands near the center of the photo in front of the church, Santi Luca e Marina, and behind the columns in the foreground of the Temple of Saturn. The Arch of Septimius Severus was built was to celebrate the emperor’s victories which was common in the Roman Empire in the second century. The arch represents the siege of Nisibis from 195 AD in the first Parthian war. <br /><br />The columns of the Temple of Saturn are in the center foreground of the photo just in front of the Arch of Septimius Severus. It was an ancient Roman temple to the god Saturn in what is now Rome, Italy. The original dedication of the temple is believed to be 497 BC.<br /><br />Finally on the far right of the photograph, at the intersection with the sky you can see the Colosseum rising up. This photograph captures some of the most iconic structures of the ancient Roman Empire. The Colosseum is one of the largest amphitheaters ever built and was used for gladiatorial contests and public spectacles. This photograph is available in both color and black and white.
